About The Program
The Mahwah Baseball and Softball Recreation Programs have joined together to offer an “All-Star” Program designed for special needs children between the ages of 6 through 18. This is a non-competitive co-ed program to introduce the basic skills of the game and work on fundamentals in a safe environment while having lots of fun. There are no strikes and outs and children hit a ball off a tee or pitched by a coach based on the child’s skill level.
The children play in Mahwah every Saturday for 6 weeks. Dates for Picture Day and the Mahwah Parade will be communicated separately. “Buddies” from ages 12 to 21 and adult volunteers work with your child and adapt the program based on the individual child’s needs. This program is available for any special needs children in Mahwah, NJ or neighborhood towns. This program is for children between the ages of 6 through 18 diagnosed with developmental disabilities (mental and/or physical impairments). All children must have a parent or guardian at the field at all times. Parents are welcome to assist but are not required. NOTE: With regard to safety concerns for all our players and volunteers, Mahwah Recreation Department reserves the right to determine whether or not a player’s skill level exceeds what is appropriate for this special needs program since safety is the number one priority. In order to participate in the program, please complete the registration form. The registration fee is at a reduced amount and is used towards shirts and trophies for the children. Bats and balls will be available to the children. It is suggested that parents bring their own helmet and glove for their child so it fits properly. If you have any questions or are unsure whether this program is an appropriate activity for your child, please feel to contact START HERE
